BHS Seeks Funds for HVAC Repair

By: BNEWS Weekly

For the third year in a row the School Department is submitting a statement of interest to the Massachusetts School Building Authority regarding funding for Burlington High School’s aging HVAC system.  The high school HVAC is the original from 1971 and is literally being held together with duct tape in some places.

School Committee and Board of Selectmen approval is required for the project to be considered and both have unanimously approved.  The statement of interest requires specific language which includes explaining the need of the HVAC and how it will positively impact the school.   Director of Finance & Operations Craig Robinson noted that each year submitting to the MSBA is a fresh start, there is no moving up the list over time, projects are accepted or they are not.

It was also cited that the MSBA assisted Burlington with the building of the Memorial School and renovations to Marshall Simonds Middle School, so the MSBA may be likely to consider other districts for funding.  If the BHS HVAC funding is approved by the MSBA; the statement of interest is just the first step of a multi-step, multi-year process.
