Burlington's 2016 Independence Day Celebration to Include Fireworks

By: Rich Hosford

For the first time in a long time this year’s 4th of July celebration in Burlington will feature some colorful explosions.

Selectman and member of the 4th of July Committee Mike Runyan announced during the meeting on Monday that the festivities this year will include fireworks.

He said the fireworks will start after dark, likely around 9 p.m., and will be set off in the field at the Human Services Building. Residents can gather at the Town Common to see the show.

The annual parade will be that morning starting at 11 a.m. and will follow the same route, from the car wash to Memorial Elementary School, that it did last year.

Runyan said the next thing the committee needs to do is some fundraising to pay for the fireworks. He said he’s confident individual and business sponsors will lend support. There will also be a fundraising event at Kings Bowl on Tuesday, June 14 from 5 to 9 p.m. with a suggested donation of $20.
