Heat Advisory Issued for Thursday
Heads up everyone, it looks like Thursday is going to be a hot one.
The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a heat advisory that will be in effect from noon to 7 p.m. on Thursday, August 11. The advisory is for most of eastern Massachusetts including the Burlington area.
According to the advisory there could be head index values up to 104 due to temperatures int he mid to upper 90s. It will also be humid with a dew point in the lower 70s.
The NWS says the heat, humidity and head index values could be dangerous to some people.
“The combination of hot temperatures and high humidity will combine to create a situation in which heat illnesses are possible,” the advisory states, continuing on with some advice. “Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sunshine and check up on friends and neighbors.”
The NWS also recommends people take extra precautions, especially if you work outside.
“When possible, reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or evening,” it states. “Wear light weight and loose fitting clothing when possible and drink plenty of water.”
Pet owners should also ensure animals have access to shade or a cool indoor area and be given plenty of water.
