Numerous Schools, Including Shawsheen Tech, Received Automated Calls Threatening a Bomb

By: Rich Hosford

There was a new set of “robo-calls” threatening Massachusetts schools on Monday, including at Shawsheen Technical High School.

Fox 25 WFXT reported that 16 schools across the state received automated voice messages saying there was a bomb on the premises. This comes on the heels of a similar episode in January when 15 schools, including Burlington High School, received similar threats. Those threats were deemed to be non-credible though BHS did cancel afternoon activities and sent staff home early as a precaution.

On Monday Shawsheen Tech tweeted that it had received the bomb threat and that Billerica Police were at the school.

The school said Billerica Police Department had worked with the administration and other area school district to conduct a threat assessment and a sweep of the school and they determined the threat was not credible. School leaders said they found no reason to interrupt the day for teachers and students and did not close the building.
