Roadwork Begins Suddenly on 3A

By: BNEWS Weekly

If you were surprised this week by the sudden MassDOT roadwork happening on Route 3A, between Bedford Street and Mall Road, you’re not the only one.

After seemingly years of effort by town officials to get MassDOT in on the paving of Cambridge Street, crews suddenly began working Monday night just as the Board of Selectmen convened.  DPW Director John Sanchez informed the board that the town requested a delay in the paving as the town is still considering work at the high school entrance and the coming Mercedes-Benz dealership.  After hearing the consideration MassDOT decided to still move forward with the roadwork which will take 2-3 week to complete.

Although under time pressure the board considers the paving a chance to address traffic issues particularly whether to stripe that stretch of Cambridge Street as two lanes or four.  The board moved to hold a special meeting in the coming week on the matter.
