Van With Acetylene Torches Inside Catches Fire at Hyatt House
By: Rich Hosford
Burlington emergency crews made a quick response to a vehicle fire in the Hyatt House parking lot on Wednesday.
The report of a van fire came in at around 12:15 p.m. and police arrived on scene two minutes after the call. They were able to tell the Fire Department that the van was dangerously close to the building.
Firefighters arrived a minute later and went to work extinguishing the fire. Captain Scott Carpenter said putting down the flames took a little while because the van was filled with plumbing supplies that kept on burning.
There were also two acetylene tanks inside the van and there are reports that when crews were en route one of them exploded.
Nobody was injured in the incident and the building was not damaged. It was initially evacuated but by 12:40 p.m. it had reopened.
