Burlington High Spring Sports Come to a Close

The Spring Sports Season at Burlington High School has come to a close. 


The Girls Softball team finished the year at (15-5) and was qualified for a chance in the playoffs. The Lady Devils were immediately knocked off by the Danvers Falcons in the first round of the MIAA Playoffs 1 to nothing .Seniors and Pitchers Christina Clark, Erica Carney and Catcher Meghan Gurska move on from the team.


The Girls Tennis Team finished their season with a (12-5) and qualified for the MIAA Playoff Tournament. The girls season concluded in the first round of the tournament after being defeated by the Concord-Carlisle Patriots 4-1. Seniors Jessica Abrevaya and Madison Metzdorf had a great four years at Rahanis.


As for the Boys Tennis Team they finished with a record of (12-6) and lost to the Masconomet Chieftains in the first round of the MIAA Playoffs 4-1. Parting ways after four years are seniors Jordan Kalatchev, Sameer Khalifia, Scott Stack and Michael Winters.


The Girls Lacrosse Team finished with a (4-13) record and just made the cusp in the MIAA Playoffs. They went on to face the Chelmsford Lions, but they unfortunately were blown out by a score of 16-1. Moving on from the Marshall Simonds Middle School Brush Field are Seniors Amy DeLeo, Goalie Alyson Pinkham, Defensive Player Meghan McDonald, and Madison LeBaron.


Boys Lacrosse concluded their season with a (13-5) record and lost in the first round of the MIAA Playoffs 14-10 over the Melrose Red Raiders. Jake Doherty, Patrick Hayes, Mitchell Maida, Conor Quinlan and Lucas Trabucco are moving on from BHS after four years on the team.


The Red Devils Baseball Team finished with a record 10 and 10. They went on to face the Marblehead Magicians in the first round of the MIAA Playoffs, but unfortunately lost by a score of 5-2. Seniors and Infielders Jake Doyle, Justin Miksenas, Matt Tyman and Pitcher Cam Wheelock move on from the diamond.


Finally, the Red Devils Track Team finished the year undefeated with a record of 12-0. Carr and his team once again took home the Middlesex League Freedom Division Title. Seniors Christian Boyadjiev, Jeremiah Burley, Nick Campbell, Brandon Cascio, Tom DeRosa, Dan Downie, Scott Fraser, Ryan Giogas, Steven Humphreys, Johnson Magada, Tim Pinkham, and Rishabh Prakash are departing from the Varsity Field after four seasons.


The Lady Devils Track Team finished 3-2 in the Middlesex League Freedom Division this season, ranking third. Senior Julia Hovasse went undefeated in the league and won the 800 meter at the league championship meet. The team also reset three school record during the 2019 season, the Sprint Medley Relay was broken by over 10 seconds with a new time of 4 minutes and 14 seconds.


Winnie Seykaya, Kristina Wolinkski, Julia Hovasse and Liz Brieby broke the 4 by 200 meter relay with a time of 1 minutes and 49 seconds. Finally, the 4 by 800 relay broke the record with a time of 9 minutes and 54 seconds.


Seniors Sasha Festi, Shaylinn Gainley, Makayla Houniet, Julia Hovasse, Michelle Johnson, Emily LoRusso, Sarah Owens, Priya Patel and Sydney Seavey have left BHS after four seasons.
