Spring Sports Hit The Mid season Stretch

By: Robert Parris

BHS Spring sports have reached the midpoint of the season and a number of teams are still trying to make a playoff spot.

The Lady Devils Lacrosse Team had a home game on Tuesday afternoon against the Stoneham Spartans at the Marshall Simonds Middle School Brush field. Burlington took home the victory against the Spartans 12-10. The girls will be traveling to Cawley Stadium to take on the Lowell Red Raiders on Thursday afternoon at 7 p.m.

The boys’ lacrosse played the Spartans as well on Tuesday afternoon at Varsity Field at BHS. They came out with a 14-4 victory over Stoneham. The team will be on the road on Friday afternoon to take on the Red Raiders in Watertown at 4:30 p.m.

Both track teams were rescheduled to play in the Middlesex League Pole Vault Championships on Monday afternoon, but due to the weather the event has been postponed to Thursday afternoon at BHS at 4 p.m. This will be the first time Burlington has hosted the Pole Vault Championship since 2012. The teams will also be playing the Lexington Minutemen on Wednesday afternoon at Varsity Field at 4 p.m. in their final regular season game.

The Girls Tennis Team went up against the Wakefield Warriors on Monday afternoon at Rahanis Park. The girls came away with a 4-1 win over the Warriors. Individual winners in the game were Seniors Madison Metzdorf, Jess Abrevaya and Sophomore Liz Gillespie. Double winners were Junior Niti Seereeram and Freshmen Kacey Pustizzi. The Lady Devils improve to (8-5) on the season. The team will be heading to Wilmington to take on the Wildcats on Wednesday afternoon at 4 p.m.

The Girls Softball Team lost to the Wakefield warriors on Monday afternoon at Ladrigan Field. They were scheduled to be back in action on Wednesday afternoon at Marvin Field to take on the Wilmington Wildcats at 4 p.m.

In other news, Seniors Jake Doherty and Cam Wheelock will continue playing football next year in the fall. Doherty, who was a running back for Burlington, will be playing at Plymouth State University. Wheelock will be heading to North Andover where he will be attending Merrimack College.
