Burlington Man Pleads Guilty in Accident that Claimed Off Duty Officer's Life

By: Rich Hosford

A Burlington man arrested last year in New Hampshire after allegedly causing an accident while racing that killed a Somerville police officer has plead guilty.

Michael Ricci, 19, pleaded guilty on October 4 in Rockingham Superior Court to negligent homicide and second-degree assault, WHDH reports.

After the accident, New Hampshire State Police say witnesses reported that Ricci was racing other drivers while operating a Mercedes-Benz. Police say he drove over the center lane and struck off-duty Somerville officer Louis Remigio, who was riding a motorcycle. Remigio died from his injuries on the Monday night following the accident in a hospital.

After his arrest Ricci posted the $10,000 bail and returned to his Burlington home. However, on Tuesday, October 10 the Burlington Police Department arrested him again on a warrant related to a previous charge out of Lowell juvenile court.

Ricci will now be sentenced at a later date following his guilty plea.
