Merrimack Valley Library Consortium Introduces New Library App

By: Tad Stephanak

There is a new app from the Merrimack Valley Library Consortium that allows you to interact with library services on your smartphone.

Burlington Public Library Director Michael Wick explained how the MVLC Mobile app creates easy access to the materials and resources and keeps you informed on library events and happenings.

“It’s a dynamic bundling of our services,” he said. “Not only does it offer a mobile friendly version of our catalog but it’s also an easy way for people to access their account.”

Once logged in, the MVLC Mobile creates a digital library card and directs you to your home library. The app can also store more than one account so family members can access their own separate accounts. Wick remarked on the app protecting against preferences being tracked.

“We’ll leave the personalization services up to the patron in an effort to secure their privacy,” he said.

The MVLC app not only allows users to search a mobile-optimized version of the library catalog, it can also help manage renewals, checkouts and holds.

The popular digital distribution system OverDrive works with the new app making it easy to download eBooks and eAudiobooks. The app can reserve discounted museum passes and is also capable of scanning a book’s ISBN Bar Code to see if the book is available at your local library.

The MVLC Mobile app is available for Apple and Android and can download by searching “MVLC Mobile” on either the iOS App Store or Google Play Store.

Director Wick noted the new app makes the Burlington Public Library more accessible.

“It’s part of the library creating more value for our community and their library services,” he said.
