Artist Milisa Galazzi to Visit Burlington High Thanks to BEF Grant

By: Tad Stephanak

A Burlington Education Foundation (BEF) grant is providing BHS students with a visit from a professional artist.

Best known for her three dimensional hand sewn shadow drawings, Milisa Galazzi will be visiting Burlington High School for a presentation to the entire student body. BHS Art Educator Christina Chang spoke on the BEF contribution.

“They want to help give all kinds of programs for the students that will be enriching and really add to our curriculum,” Chang said. “It’s kind of something that’s above and beyond what we’d be able to do, to be able to bring in a professional artist. It’s a great way to introduce the students to a working artist to see what they’re doing.”

Galazzi’s work is held in private international collections as well as public collections in the United States. Chang sited the attraction of BHS to visiting artists.

“We have a great gallery, we have this professional space we can have professional artists use and have them talk to the students,” she said.

Chang explained how Galazzi’s artistic endeavors apply to the school’s message.

“Each year we’ve had a schoolwide theme and this year the theme is about happiness, personal happiness and how you can find that and achieve it,” she said. “Her concept, the idea she’s trying to convey, is that she is an artist who has dyslexia and so she’s kind of seen the world through a different lens. Some people call it a disability, she found it a strength in her art work.”

Chang feels Gallazzi’s story will resonate with students.

“She’ll share her personal journey and share that with the students and show her work,” she said. “Hopefully the kids can tie it in with their own happiness as she’s talking about her own personal creative journey.”

There will be a reception for the reception for artist Milisa Galazzi on Thursday, September 12 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Cambridge Street Gallery located inside the Burlington High School.

Galazzi will be presenting at the Fogelberg Performing Arts Center located in the Burlington High School.
