BHS Musicians Earn Top Spot in Montreal Competition

Burlington High School’s talented musicians proved they have what it takes in an international competition.

The BHS Wind Ensemble, BHS Symphonic Band and the BHS Combined Chorus traveled to and performed at a competition at Concordia University in Montreal, Canada. As usual, the Burlington students performed well.

The Wind Ensemble took home the first place Gold medal. Both the Symphonic Band and the Combined Chorus garnered second place finishes.

Senior Ellie Yu received a special award when she awarded the Maestro Award for her piano performance.

While in Montreal, the students played in the competition and were judged against other ensembles. Additionally, each ensemble attended a master class at a college in the Montreal area. The band's master classes was held at Vanier College. The chorus' class was held at McGill University.

During the trip the students were also able to do some sightseeing. They visited Old Montreal, the Basilica of Notre Dame, the 21 Swings exhibit and other local sites of interest.
