Board of Health to Hold Hazardous Material Disposal Day


Do you have any unused hazardous materials lying around your house?

The Burlington Board of Health will be conducting their semi-annual Household Hazardous Waste Collection Day on Saturday, April 13 from 8:30am to noon at Francis Wyman Elementary School.

This collection event is for Burlington residents only and provides an opportunity for proper disposal and recycling of household quantities of hazardous materials. Proof of residency will be required.

Hazardous waste materials that will be accepted include:


- Full Aerosol cans -  (Empty cans can be placed in curbside recycling bin)


-Automotive products - Oil, brake fluid, car wax, gasoline, antifreeze, engine degreaser.


- Batteries, Lead acid, button cell, nickel-cadmium and lithium.


- Fluorescent light bulbs. Tubes and energy saving compacts. Transport in box or case.


- Glues and adhesives


- Hobby chemicals


- Mercury and mercury containing products


- Paint. Oil-based only.


- Pesticides - including herbicides, insecticides, fungicides, fertilizer with pesticides, snail/slug/rat poison.


- Pool chemicals


- Propane tanks


- Thinners and solvents - turpentine, paint stripper, paint thinner, degreaser


Latex paint, tires, radioactive materials, alkaline batteries, construction materials, medical sharps, and expired/unwanted medications will NOT be accepted. However, there are sharp kiosks available at the Burlington Fire and Police Departments.


Oversized amounts, such as truck or dumpster loads of materials, will not be accepted.
