Board of Selectmen Chooses New Chair, Vice Chair

By: Rich Hosford

On Monday evening the Board of Selectmen, as they do after every town election, reorganized the board.

Selectman Mike Runyan nominated Joe Morandi to become the new Chairman of the Board to replace Chris Hartling, who after two years as chair did not win re-election on Saturday. The board voted 4-0-1 in favor of Morandi with the new chairman opting to abstain.

After being made the new chair, Morandi joked that he hopes the next year goes smoothly with him at the helm.

“I hope I do a good job,” he said. “It won’t be a Chris Hartling show it will be a Joe Morandi show, which should be interesting.”

Morandi took a minute to say some words about the election, the winners and also about Hartling.

“I would just like to say one quick thing about the election, it’s great that we had the turnout we did and congratulations to you both your wins,” he said. “And I would also like to thank Mr. Hartling for all his time on the board. He taught me a lot. So Chris, thank you for everything.”

Next up was the position of Vice Chairman. Selectman Bob Hogan nominated Jim Tigges to the position and the members voted 4-0-1 in favor, again with the candidate himself abstaining from the vote.

“I want to thank the board for choosing me as vice chair,” he said.

Tigges added he wanted to also recognize Hartling for his time on the board.

“I would also be remiss if I didn’t thank Chris Hartling for his work on the board and before,” he said. “I learned a lot from Chris, he was a great selectman and great chair. He will be missed.”

The other members of the board also thanked Hartling for his service and dedication to the community.
