Board of Selectmen Elects New Chair, Vice Chair

By: Rich Hosford

The Board of Selectmen has a new chairman.

As it does every year after the town election the board reorganized itself.

Selectman Bob Hogan made a motion to nominate Chris Hartling as chairman. Hartling had spent the last year in the vice chair position.

Hartling then nominated Joe Morandi as vice chair. Both nominations were approved by 4-0-0 votes.

In his normal style, Hartling joked about taking the head spot at the table.

“Let’s hope nobody regrets this someday,” he said, before making a more sincere statement.

“Thank you very much,” he said. “I’ll certainly make the effort. In my years on the board I’ve been lucky enough to be under three good chairs, Bob Hogan, Mike Runyan and Dan Grattan. I’ll certainly try to continue the high precedent they have set.

Former chair Dan Grattan did not seek reelection.

Jim Tigges, who was elected to the board last Saturday, had not yet been sworn in due to a scheduling conflict. He was set to be sworn in on Wednesday and will attend his first Board of Selectmen meeting as a member on April 24.
