Bose to Close 119 Retail Stores Including Burlington Mall Location

Another retail location is closing due to pressure from online shopping.

Business Insider reports that the audio equipment manufacturer Bose is closing its 119 retail stores in North America, Europe, Japan and Australia over the next several months. It will maintain some stores in China, the United Arab Emirates, India and South Korea.

Bose has two locations in Massachusetts, one in The Burlington Mall and the other in Wrentham.

The company was founded in 1964 and is based in Framingham. It opened its first retail store in the United States in 1993.

In a statement, a spokesperson for Bose told Business Insider the decision to close the stores was due to a shifting among customers to online purchases.

The company did not say how many employees would lose their jobs but did say everyone impacted would be offered “outplacement assistance and severance.”
