Boys Varsity Hockey Falls Short in Cahoon Cup Tournament

By: Robert Parris

It was a sprint to the finish on Tuesday night for two teams who were looking for a win in the first round of the Cahoon Tournament.

The Burlington Red Devils faced off against the Framingham Flyers, who are ranked seventh in state.

Both sides failed to score during the first period. As the second period came around, senior and forward Nate Nichols got the first points up for Framingham. Burlington was not going to back down and senior and forward Conor Quinlan tied the game up late in the second making it 1-1.

In the third and final period, junior and forward Will Trischitta gave Framingham the lead again as he scored his first goal of the game. The Red Devils’ defense would allow another empty net goal scored by Framingham senior Mike Tersoni.

As a result of the game, Burlington’s playoff run ended against Framingham in the first round of the Cahoon Tournament.

“I knew they were a solid team, we played a really good game,” Head Coach Bob Conceison said. “I thought it was a really good high school high game and a tournament atmosphere, this is the type of game we need to play going forward.”

Although Burlington is knocked out of playoff contention, they will have a consolation game against the Chelmsford Lions on Thursday night at 5 p.m. at the Ice Palace.

Finally, as the season comes to a close Coach Conceison is ready to think about the future of the team as they enter the offseason.

“Framingham hasn’t beaten us here,” Conceison said. “They have a really good team this year and they deserve it. I thought it was a really good game overall for both teams.
