Brazilian Steakhouse Fogo de Chao Eying Burlington Location

By: Rich Hosford

A popular high-end Brazilian restaurant is looking to locate in Burlington.

Paperwork for a special permit has been filed with the Planning Department for Fogo de Chao Churrascaria (Burlington) for a planned Fogo de Chao restaurant in the Burlington Mall in the new mall corridor located in the former Sears site.

The restaurant was founded by brothers in Southern Brazil who grew up on a farm where they learned to cook traditional recipes. They moved to São Paulo for formal churrasqueiro training and developed the concept for Fogo de Chao. They opened their first restaurant in the United States in 1997 and by 2018 had 52 locations in the United States, Brazil, Mexico and the Middle East. There is currently a Fogo de Chao location in Boston.

The restaurant is described as an “upscale Brazilian chain for all-you-can-eat meat carved tableside plus an extensive salad bar.”

The Burlington restaurant would have seating for 363 guests including 86 seasonal seats located outside.

The special permit application is scheduled to be before the Planning Board on Thursday, February 6.
