Burlington Education Foundation Highlights Grants Made in 2018/19 School Year

An organization that works to ensure Burlington students have innovative and engaging classroom experiences has been hard at work.

The Burlington Education Foundation (BEF) presented its annual end-of-the-year update for the School Committee earlier this week. The BEF granted over $20,000 in funds during the 2018-2019 school year to support innovative projects proposed by Burlington educators.

BEF President Paula Boermeester highlighted some of the grants from this past year including FITStep Pro Pedometers for all the elementary schools Physical Education programs to help students track their PE activities. BEF also covered the cost of a program for two middle school staff members to attend training for the implementation of middle school orientation and transition program.

Boermeester also discussed annual events the BEF sponsors to raise the funds that make these grants possible, namely spring and fall raffles, Trivia Night, and the annual 5K road race. In addition to their annual membership campaign, the BEF also sponsors STAR Awards highlighting individuals who’ve made a special impact in Burlington Schools.

Boermeester also noted the significant financial support that the local business community provides the BEF.

As the Burlington school year ends and we prepare for another, the BEF could use more volunteers to support its efforts during the 2019-2020 school year.  If you are interested in volunteering, please fill out the form at the BEF website.
