Burlington Firefighter Promoted to Lieutenant

A member of the Burlington Fire Department has been promoted to a new position left open after a promotion two weeks ago.

As reported on BNEWS, on January 8 Fire Lt. Robert Paul was promoted to captain in the wake of a retirement that left the position open.

On Monday at the Board of Selectmen meeting, Fire Department Chief Steve Yetman recommended that firefighter Mike Bibbey be promoted to lieutenant to fill Paul’s previous post. Yetman said five strong candidates were interviewed for the position and that Bibbey’s experience and professionalism made him a good pick.

Yetman said Bibbey has been with the department for 29 years. He holds certifications as Firefighter I and Firefighter II, Fire Officer I, Fire Inspector I, CPR Instructor and Ice/Water Rescue Instructor.

At the chief’s recommendation Town Administrator John Petrin made the promotion official. The Board of Selectmen unanimously waived the 15-day waiting period for new hires and new promotions.

Petrin said the town went through the Civil Service process to gather candidates for the lieutenant position and, per usual, they were given a list of very qualified individuals from the department.

“I can’t speak enough about the quality and professionalism of our Fire Department,” Petrin said. “They do an outstanding job for this community.”
