Burlington Native Richard Delorey Appointed to Fire Department

By: Rich Hosford

The Burlington Fire Department has a new member.

On Monday night Burlington Town Administrator Paul Sagarino, at the recommendation of Fire Chief Michael Patterson, appointed Richard Delorey to the department as a Firefighter/Paramedic.

Delorey is a Burlington resident who has been working for the Winchester Fire Department as a Firefighter/Paramedic since February of 2019. He comes to Burlington through a lateral transfer from Winchester.

Delorey graduated from the Massachusetts Firefighting Academy in August 2019 and earned his Firefighter I/II Certifications and Hazardous Materials Operational Certification.

He also is currently working as a paramedic with Cataldo/Atlantic Ambulance Service that covers many North Shore communities such as Peabody, Salem, Swampscott and Marblehead.

He may be familiar to residents as not only a Burlington native but also a former employee of True North Coffee on Cambridge Street.

“He’s a familiar face,” Patterson said.

Board Chair Joe Morandi pointed out that, as usual, a number of Burlington firefighters came to the meeting to support the new member. He referenced them when speaking to Delorey.

“These gentlemen will teach you a lot more than any other fire department around - they are well educated and well trained,” he said. “I can’t say enough about our Fire Department and Police Department. We all thank you for everything you do everyday.”
