Burlington Public Library Announces New Catalog System to be Installed
The following is a release from the Burlington Public Library:
In mid-May, the Burlington Public Library and all 36 libraries in Merrimack Valley Library Consortium (MVLC) will be moving to a new library system. The staff will be fully trained and ready to assist you with any questions you might have.
The Burlington Public Library will be closed until 1 p.m. on Wednesday, May 3 and Monday, May 15 to provide training for all staff members.
The old system will be shut down on the morning of Monday, May 15 and the new system is expected to be up and running on Thursday morning, May 18. In the interim, we will still be able to check out items to you. We will extend our due dates so that nothing will be due back during that week. Do note that many of our other functions will be limited during this down time. This may be inconvenient for a few days but the benefits of switching to Symphony will be worth it!
Why are we switching? you might ask. We know that there are a number of limitations with Evergreen, our current system. We have been looking to improve the catalog searching experience of our patrons and have fully investigated our options. Symphony, a product that will streamline workflows within the library and enable us to provide an enhanced catalog and user experience to everyone, was chosen by the MVLC libraries.
Some features we know you’ll love:
- With a single search, you'll be able to see everything within our library walls and our ebooks, e-audiobooks, and streaming videos all in one place.
- Enhanced search filters will help you to narrow your results by audience, format, availability, and more, so that you can find exactly what you need!
- With our Symphony system, you will be able to pay your library fines and fees on-line with your debit or credit card when you are using the catalog. (only available on-line, not at the Circulation Desk)
While the new catalog will have an updated look and feel, we will be maintaining and improving some of your favorite features from the old catalog. If you are wondering what to read, watch, or listen to next, the catalog will still contain recommendations and suggestions for further reading based on the titles and authors that you search for. You will continue to have online access to your library account to place and manage holds and renew items.
As always, the staff of the Burlington Public Library will be here to answer questions and to assist you with the new catalog and its features. Stay tuned for updates and more information as we move closer to the launch of Symphony.
