Burlington Red Devils 2-0 Streak Ends in Stoneham

By: Robert Parris

The Burlington Red Devils suffered their first loss of the season last Friday at Stoneham High School.

Offensively, the Red Devils found success while throwing the ball in the air. However, the Spartans were very successful when it came to running the ball on the ground.

“Stoneham ran the ball effectively and we were able to throw the ball effectively,” Coach Dan Mackay said.

The team couldn’t find a way to match up with the Spartans’ physicality and found it difficult to stop the speedy halfback, with Stoneham’s fast and effective running game.

As for the Red Devils offense, their performance was not up to par.

“Offensively, we missed a couple of assignments and didn’t execute at a high level,” Mackay said.

Finally, MacKay said during this week’s practices the team will continue to work on the fundamentals and execute their offense, defense, and special teams.

For their division standings, the Red Devils are in second place with a record of two and one. Their next match up will be another divisional matchup between the Watertown Red Raiders at home this Friday night.
