Burlington Red Devils Move to 2-0 After Road Win Over Woburn

By: Robert Parris

The Burlington Red Devils claimed victory over their arch rival, the Woburn Tanners, this past Friday night with a final score of 21-16.

The Red Devils were “welcomed” by a loud crowd of Woburn students whose chants and cheers led to some communication issues between players and their coaches.

“The biggest challenge of the away game was the crowd noise,” Coach Dan Mackay said. “We had a few communication errors because their fan section was so loud. However, we persevered and found a way to win.”

The loud crowd noise didn’t stop the Red Devils offense from putting points on the board.

“Offensively we scored on a running play and two pass plays,” Mackay said. “Jake Doherty scored an 8 yard touchdown run, Ryan O’Halloran with a 19 yard touchdown pass and Matt Pinkham scored with a 75 yard touchdown pass for the team.”

The Red Devils defense had a difficult time containing Woburn Quarterback Ryan Qualey who scored on two runs - one for 8 yards and another for 5.

Finally, Mackay wants the team to focus on fixing several mistakes both on the offensive and defensive side of the ball.

“This week our focus is on us,” he said. “Doing the little things correct like aligning properly, reading keys on defense, and tackling on defense. On offense a better focus to limit penalties. I hope we learn that even though we haven't played our best yet we are still 2-0.”

The Burlington Red Devils stand in their division with a (2-0) record alongside Wilmington and Stoneham.

This week, the Devils will travel to Stoneham on Friday night to take onthe Spartans at 6:30 pm. In a match up that will decide division supremacy and who will move on to 3-0.
