Burlington Resident to Perform in Brown Box Theatre Project’s ‘Measure of Measure’

By: Rich Hosford

A Burlington resident will be taking the stage and speaking the words of The Bard as part of a traveling theatre group.

Tim Colee will be taking on the role of Escalus in the Brown Box Theatre Project’s production of Shakespeare’s Measure for Measure. Colee has past credits in theater that include Oberon in A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Snowball in Animal Farm, Cassio in Othello and Ebenezer Scrooge in A Christmas Carol among others.

“Tim is very excited to be joining the ensemble in bringing free Shakespeare to communities throughout Boston and the Delmarva area,” the production company’s website says. “He would also like to thank his parents, and his wonderful girlfriend Lindsey for all their love and support.”

In the play Duke Vincentio of Vienna decides to take a break from ruling and appoints Angelo to rule in his absence, assisted by a trusted councillor, Escalus. The first thing Angelo does is pronounce that he is going to enforce the immorality laws to try and stamp out the epidemic of ‘loose’ living. One action he undertakes is to condemn a man who got his fiancee pregnant before wedlock but the man’s sister comes to plead in his defense and Angelo falls for her.

Duke Vincentio, in the meantime, has not left Vienna but disguised himself as an itinerant friar and is moving about among the people to observe the effect of Angelo’s rule.

Being a Shakespeare comedy, the play comes together in a positive for those involved.

All performances are free, outdoors, and open to all audiences. Due to the nature of the content Brown Box recommends this play for adult or mature audiences. For a list of performance times and locations visit
