Burlington Rotary to Host Talk by WCVB’s 5 Investigates Member Kathy Curran


An award-winning Boston investigative journalist will be speaking in Burlington this Friday. 

Kathy Curran, a member of WCVB's 5 Investigates, the station's enterprising and in-depth investigative unit, will be speaking at the Rotary Club of Burlington on Friday, November 8 at the Hilton Garden Inn in Burlington. Lunch will be served at 12:15 and Curran will speak around 12:45. Cost to attend is $20. 

“Kathy will talk about some of her recent investigations including the State Police Scandal which she broke,” an invite from the group states. “Kathy has been a crime and investigative reporter for over twenty-seven years, having spent twenty-three of those years in Boston covering and breaking major local and national stories including the far-reaching overtime scandal within the Massachusetts state police, the Boston Marathon bombing, Molly Bish case, September 11, Hurricane Katrina, Whitey Bulger, the Rhode Island Station Nightclub fire, and the Dartmouth murders.”

Curran has won fourteen Boston/New England Emmy Awards, including Outstanding Reporter-Investigative in 2019, 2018, 2017, 2016, 2015, 2012, and 2009, plus Outstanding Investigative Report in 2019 and 2009. Notably, she has received Emmy nominations every year since 1999, and has been recognized for her investigative reporting in various categories including Spot News, Individual Writing, and Feature Reporting. 

She was honored with a National Edward R. Murrow Award in 2019 as part of the 5 Investigates team who won in the Best News Series category for their work that uncovered the State Police overtime scandal, and a Regional Edward R. Murrow Award in 2017 for Investigative Reporting. In addition, the 5 Investigates team was awarded a prestigious National Gracie Award in 2019 by The Alliance for Women in Media in the TV - Local Market Outstanding Investigative Feature category also recognizing their work that broke the State Police overtime scandal.
