Burlington Sears Set to Close in April

By: Rich Hosford

The Sears location in the Burlington Mall, which has for years been one of the anchor stores, will be closing later this year.

CNBC reports that Sears Holding, the company that owns Sears and Kmart, told employees on Thursday that it will be closing over 100 stores in 2018. In total 39 Sears stores and 64 Kmart locations will be closed.

According to a release from Sears Holding the Burlington location is slated to close in early April.

“Sears Holdings continues its strategic assessment of the productivity of our Kmart and Sears store base and will continue to right size our store footprint in number and size,” the release states. “In the process, as previously announced we will continue to close some unprofitable stores as we transform our business model so that our physical store footprint and our digital capabilities match the needs and preferences of our members.”

The company says that eligible employees impacted by the store closings will receive a severance package and will have the opportunity to apply for positions in area stores that remain open.

Liquidation sales will begin as early as January 12 at the closing stores.
