Burlington Store, HELPIS, Holding Winter Clothes Drive for Area Shelters

Help those in need stay warm this winter.

Oak Furnitureland, the United Kingdom-based furniture store that opened its first United States location in Burlington, is hosting a coat drive for Burlington and Boston-area shelter residents now through December 14 and from December 26 through January 30, 2020. The company is asking residents to drop off gently worn winter coats, hats, gloves and scarves at the Oak Furnitureland store in the Wayside Shopping Center.

The company is partnering with the Burlington nonprofit HELPIS to distribute warm winter gear to men, women and children living in local area shelters. All donations will stay in the greater Burlington and Boston area.

“Winters can be harsh, particularly for people without secure housing,” said Bill Sabodor, general manager of Oak Furnitureland, in a release. “That’s why we’re offering our support by becoming a drop-off point. We want to help more people stay safe and warm this winter.”

HELPIS will coordinate distribution of the donated coats and warm winter necessities to local shelters. BNEWS recently did a special report on HELPIS and its work that can be viewed here.
