Burlington Veterans Day Program


Burlington’s Veterans Services Office has released the program for Saturday’s Veterans Day ceremony.


The ceremony will be held on the Town Common and begin at 10 a.m.


Burlington Veterans Services Director Chris Hanafin will deliver the opening comments. This will be followed by Bugler Rudy Poirier, a member of the BHS Marching Band, with the Call to Colors.


The Allied Veterans Counsel Commander & Marine Corps League, Burlington Detachment Adjucant Larry Rice will lead the raising of the flag and the BHS Marching Band will play the National Anthem. Throughout the ceremony the marching band will also play God Bless America, the Armed Forces Tribute and ther percussion section will will perform Danse Bacchanale by Camille Saint-Sanens.


Chaplin (Reverend) Francesco Passamonte will deliver an invocation.


The guest speaker this year will be Korean War Veteran Harry (Buzz) Gillogly, III.  


Mr. Gillogly is a retired active-duty Air Force officer who serves as Vice Chairman of the Massachusetts Air & Space Museum. He holds a B.S. degree in Engineering Science from the University of Notre Dame and a M.S. degree in Systems Management from the University of Southern California. He also is a graduate of the National War College and completed the Air Force (AF) Education-with-Industry curriculum in astronautics and space vehicle management. Gillogly is also a member of the Ancient & Honorable Artillery Company of Massachusetts and several other military and civilian associations.


During the ceremony veterans of the Korean War will be presented with the Korean Ambassador for Peace Medal.


To end the ceremony Chaplin Passamonte will deliver a closing prayer.


If the weather turns bad the ceremony will be moved to the wooden gym in Burlington High School. The call of a venue change will be made 24-hours in advance and you can follow BCAT on Facebook and Twitter for all announcements.
