Caring for Those With Mobility Issues Program
The following is a release from the Burlington Board of Health
Interested members of the public are invited to attend the next Quarterly Meeting of the Burlington Volunteer Reserve Corps (BVRC) on Wednesday, March 9 at 6 pm. Jose Rudy Vargas, Jr, Rehabilitation Director of Care One Lexington, will conduct a presentation performing transfers for those with mobility issues. Some topics of discussion will include body mechanics as well as demonstrations of proper posture during lifting and transfer, skills to prevent injuries, and exercises for proper back care. Mr. Vargas holds a doctorate in physical therapy from Utica College, NY and has been working in physical therapy since 1997.
The BVRC is a volunteer organization whose members are ready to provide assistance to the Burlington Community in the event of an emergency, such as widespread power outages, pandemic disease outbreaks, or severe weather emergencies. BVRC members participate in trainings, exercises, and drills to become better prepared for emergency situations. In addition, BVRC members provide assistance to the Board of Health during flu clinics, household hazardous waste collections, blood pressure screenings, and other town sponsored events.
The BVRC is in need of new medical and non-medical members. If you are interested in becoming a BVRC volunteer or would like to learn more, please join us on March 9 at 6 pm at the Murray Kelly Wing, Human Services Building, 61 Center Street and RSVP to 781-270-1955. If you are unable to attend the meeting and are interested in finding our more about the BVRC, please visit the Board of Health website at www.burlington.org, Departments A-M, Health or call 781-270-1955.
