Coach Maguire Resigns
By: Rich Hosford
Burlington High School School Varsity Football Coach Shawn Maguire has reportedly resigned from his position.
Reports of the resignation began circling mid-day on Wednesday but were confirmed by Wicked Local sports reporter Doug Hastings this afternoon. BNEWS has reached out to Maguire for both confirmation and comment but as of publishing this article have not received a response. Calls to the school department have also not been returned.
On September 28 the Burlington School Department release a statement saying that Maguire had been placed on paid administrative leave pending an administrative investigation into allegations of inappropriate behavior. The department further stated it had received allegations of verbal misconduct towards players by the coach.
That same day Maguire’s attorney, Dale Merrill, said she spoke with the coach and that he didn’t know what the allegation was about or who had made it. She added that she believed the complaint was a false allegation and that all will be cleared up in time.
In Maguire’s absence Interim Coach George Balian is leading the team.
