Details of Burlington's 4th of July Parade, Citizen of the Year and Parade Marshall

By: Rich Hosford

Come celebrate America’s independence with the Burlington 4th of July Committee’s annual parade.

The parade will start at 11 a.m. and run down Cambridge Street onto Winn Street and end at Memorial Elementary School. Cambridge Street will be closed to traffic from Wilmington Road to Skilton Lane from 9:30 a.m. to about noon so plan accordingly.

This year’s Citizen of the Year will be HELPIS founder Joyce Deliyiannis. HELPIS is a non-profit organization with the goals of promoting charitable deeds and directly helping those in need. The organization does a wide variety of charitable acts including donating to homeless shelters, ensuring students have food and clean clothes, providing scholarships and a lot more.

Deliyiannis's close contact with organization like Plummer Youth Promise, Boston Healthcare for Homeless, Limbless & Disable Vets and many others organizations constantly keeps the kindness flowing. As she says “KINDNESS has no Borders, HELPIS arms spread wide not thin” HELPIS has recently built a library in one of the homeless shelter for the children. The books are to keep and are replenished constantly

The Grand Marshall of the parade will be Stephen M. Dupuis Jr., an active duty member of the U.S. Army/National Guard.

Dupuis is a Burlington resident who lives with his wife, Nicole, and their two children Mason and Ava. He has served for over 20 years of Active Duty service most notably as an Infantry Team, Squad and Platoon Sergeant/Readiness NCO, Recruiting and Retention NCO and presently as a Regional Team Leader. He will retire from Active Duty this year with 21 years active service and over 25 years total military service.

“Being as humble as he is states none of what he does could ever be achieved without love and support of his wife Nicole and his children,” the 4th of July Committee says. “He credits his success of what he does to all the people who help volunteer. But, mainly to the American Legion Post 273 and the Allied Veterans Counsel with-out these two organizations and their dedication he would never be able to achieve all he does. That’s why our Grand Marshal of 2019 is Stephen M. Dupuis Jr.”
