Developer Eying Changes for Hertz Site on Middlesex Turnpike

By: Rich Hosford

There could be big changes coming to a prominent Middlesex Turnpike site.

The Gutierrez Company was before the Burlington Planning Board last week to detail its plans for 68 Middlesex Turnpike, currently the site of the Hertz building. The development company is seeking special permits to change the parcel along with two adjacent pieces of land to build a fast-food type restaurant.

In September of last year Town Meeting voted to allow Gutierrez to change the zoning of the site from General Industrial to General Business, allowing more service type businesses to be placed there. Hertz is currently still operating at the location but its lease is up this year.

The plans include adding additional landscaping, removing the entrance from Middlesex Turnpike and making the ingress come from Wheeler Road, and building a sidewalk up to Gutierrez’s property The Summit.

No tenant has been lined up but the developer said they are looking for a coffee shop type business.

The application for special permits was continued until the March 17 meeting.
