Dr. Alfred DeMaria and Dr. Donald Craven to Appear on “Be Prepared”

The following is a release from the Burlington Board of Health:

Dr. Alfred DeMaria, Medical Director for the MA Department of Public Health, and Dr. Donald Craven, Chairman of the Center for Infectious Disease at Lahey Health, are appearing on the television show “Be Prepared” for the months of August and September.  “Be Prepared” is a local show on Burlington’s cable access television created, produced, and hosted by members of Burlington’s Medical Reserve Corps (MRC), the Burlington Volunteer Reserve Corps (BVRC).  The BVRC is a volunteer organization whose members are ready to provide assistance to the Burlington Community in the event of an emergency and to provide assistance to the Board of Health on public health initiatives.  

Dr. DeMaria and Dr. Craven will be discussing “The Importance of Vaccines".  Part I, airing in August, discusses the impact of vaccines, childhood vaccinations, vaccine myths, potential side effects, and vaccines for travel.  Part II, airing in September, discusses vaccine shortages, the need for vaccine boosters, specific vaccines such as shingles and pneumonia, and the potential for new vaccinations for diseases such as zika virus and ebola.  Dr. DeMaria and Dr. Craven credit vaccinations for improving quality of life and increasing life expectancy.
