Expect Nightly Lane Closures on Middlesex Turnpike as MassDOT Performs Bridge Work

By: Rich Hosford

The Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) has secured funds to improve the conditions of a state-owned bridge in Burlington.

According to a letter from MassDOT to the Town of Burlington they said the district as received authorization to “expend additional, non-federal, aid funding for use in implementing limiting scope maintenance actions” in Burlington.

“Based on a review of the existing conditions of the concrete substructure, the District has chosen to use a portion of the funding to make repairs to the Route 128 bridge over the Middlesex Turnpike,” MassDOT said in the letter.

The maintenance work will consist of chipping off deteriorated concrete and replacing it with new concrete on the bridge piers and columns.

The work is anticipated to start early this spring and is expected to be completed in early July. During the time of the work there will be nightly lane closures on Middlesex Turnpike from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.
