A member of the Burlington Fire Department was made lieutenant at the Board of Selectmen meeting on Monday night to fill a vacancy from a recent promotion.

As reported on BNEWS, on February 13 Lt. Mark Cedrone was promoted to Captain to fill a spot left by retiring captain Scott Carpenter. This week Town Administrator John Petrin promoted Firefighter Todd Ficociello to lieutenant to fill Cedrone’s former post.

The promotion was based on the recommendation of Chief Steve Yetman and Assistant Chief Michael Patterson. Yetman said there were three candidates and it was a difficult choice based on the high caliber of all of them.

“They were all great, they all do an excellent job,” he said.

Ficociello is certified as a Firefighter Level 1 and 2, a Juvenile Fire Setter Intervention Specialist Level 1 and 2, an Incident Safety Officer, a Fire Officer Level 1 and a Fire Instructor Level 1. He has an Associate degree in Fire Protection and Safety Technology from Middlesex Community College and a Bachelor’s degree in Fire Science from Columbia Southern University.

He was first appointed to the Burlington Fire Department on September 16, 2002.

Petrin said he was happy to make the promotion.

“We had three candidates and Todd came out as number one the list,” he said. “We went through the interview process and he earned the right to be considered for the position. I hereby appoint him to lieutenant in the Fire Department.”

The Town Administrator also praised the department for all of its hard work.

“we have great departments here in Burlington and we certainly do in the Fire Department,” Petrin said. “They’ve been responding to a large number of calls over last couple of years.”

The Board of Selectmen voted unanimously to waive the 15 day waiting period on new hires and promotions.
