Fire Lieutenant Promoted to Captain

By: Rich Hosford

A longtime member of the Burlington Fire Department has a new rank.

Last week Lt. Robert Paul was made Captain Robert Paul during the Board of Selectmen meeting.

The promotion was made by Town Administrator John Petrin at the recommendation of Fire Chief Steve Yetman.

Yetman said Paul is a 28-year member of the department and has been a Lieutenant for 15 years. He has an Associates Degree in Fire Protection & Safety Technology. He is also certified as a Firefighter I & Firefighter II, a Fire Officer I & Fire Officer II, a Fire Instructor I & Fire Instructor II and an Incident Safety Officer.

Paul has held the position of Acting Training Captain and currently serves as Fire Prevention Lieutenant

“For those reasons I recommend Lt. John Paul for the rank of Captain,” Yetman said.

Petrin said he was happy to make the appointment.

“Lt. Paul certainly has the credentials, the time, the experience and the professionalism to be promoted to Fire Captain,” he said. “So with that recommendation from Chief Yetman, I hereby appoint Robert Paul to Captain with the Burlington Fire Department.”

Paul will assume the role of Group 1 Captain on February 4.

Finally, Yetman said that when looking to fill the position they interviewed four fire lieutenants in total. All the candidates, he said, would have made great captains.
