Friends of Burlington Dog Park to Hold Screening of LEGO Batman Movie as Fundraiser

By: Rich Hosford

The Burlington Dog Park committee is hosting a fundraiser that will feature a private screening of a film though it is not the film they originally had in mind.

The group had been planning to show A Dog’s Purpose as a way to raise money for the upcoming park. However, after a behind-the-scenes video was leaked by TMZ (WARNING: Disturbing content) that showed one of the dog being mistreated during taping, the animal-loving group decided to change course.

Nicole Mills of the Friends of the Burlington Dog Park group said the following on the group’s Facebook page after the TMZ video was release:

Hello everyone, I apologize, but it has come to our attention that there has been some mistreatment of one of the dogs they used in the movie A Dog's Purpose and the Humane Society employee overseeing the movie has been suspended. Therefore, we are going to cancel the movie fundraiser and try to reschedule for another movie at a later date.”

The group was able to salvage the fundraiser, however, and will now be holding a screening of the new Lego Batman movie on February 20 at AMC Burlington.

Tickets are between $12 to $15 dollars. In order to secure the theater they need to sell at least 75 tickets before Friday, February 10. Click here to purchase tickets.

The group’s website says the Lego Batman Movie will be fun for the whole family.

In the irreverent spirit of fun that made “The LEGO® Movie” a worldwide phenomenon, the self-described leading man of that ensemble – LEGO Batman – stars in his own big-screen adventure. But there are big changes brewing in Gotham, and if he wants to save the city from The Joker’s hostile takeover, Batman may have to drop the lone vigilante thing, try to work with others and maybe, just maybe, learn to lighten up.

The movie is rated PG. Click here to watch a trailer.

The plans for the Burlington Dog Park are to create a safe and friendly place for dogs and their owners to congregate at Rahanis Park off of Mill Street. The park will feature multiple fenced-in areas where dogs can run around as well as fun obstacles and pieces of equipment the pups can play on.

The dog park will be between an existing softball field and a playground.
