GoFundMe Created for Family of Buffalo Wild Wings GM Ryan Baldera

By: Rich Hosford

A GoFundMe has been created to support the family of Ryan Baldera, the Buffalo Wild Wings general manager who died after a chemical accident in the restaurant last Thursday evening.

Baldera, 32, of Lawrence, leaves behind a wife and newborn child.

Ryan was a beloved husband, father, son, brother, cherished uncle, nephew and son-in-law to his close knit family and friends,” Ed Araujo and Nikki Tarbell, friends of Baldera who created the page, wrote. “Ryan's life was tragically taken too soon in an accident at work protecting the patrons and staff at a restaurant he managed. He married the love of his life last year and three months ago they brought their son into the world.”

According to authorities, a preliminary investigation conducted in conjunction with the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) indicates that a second employee had applied two substances, Super 8 and Scale Kleen, to the kitchen floor while attempting to clean it. The two substances reacted with one another, creating toxic fumes.

Baldera, who was not the one who put the chemical down, attempted to clean it up himself after ushering other employees away before succumbing to the fumes.

“That's who Ryan was in life and how he left this world - making sure the people around him were OK, safe, happy and with a smile on their face,” Araujo and Tarbell said. “His selflessness was why everyone who knew Ryan; loved Ryan.  Sadly, that selflessness cost him his life.”

His friends say that Baldera put family and friends before anything else.

“Family defined Ryan,” they wrote. “His friends. His co-workers. His blood relatives. These were his family  Anyone he met felt better that day or in their life for knowing him. He loved his friends, family, golfing, making people laugh, the Patriots and Red Sox but above all he loved the two most important things in his world - his wife and newborn son.”
