Government Meetings to Give Updates on COVID-19: How to Watch From Home

By: Rich Hosford

Burlington municipal buildings remain closed but some meetings will be held and carried live on BCAT and our BCAT Government Coverage Facebook page.

The Board of Selectmen is holding a regular meeting at 6 p.m. on Monday, March 23. Included on the agenda are an update on COVID-19, an order to postpone the Town Election, the appointment of a new Treasurer/Tax Collector, a water ban, a change of the town’s alcohol policy and an update on May Town Meeting. A couple of public hearings are expected to be continued to a future meeting. The plan is for four of the selectmen to be in the room and one participating remotely due to previously-reported health reasons unrelated to COVID-19.

Those who want to watch the meeting can do so on our BCAT Government channel (Comcast: 99, Verizon: 41, RCN: 15). You can also watch it streamed live on our BCAT Government Facebook page

On Tuesday the Board of Health will be meeting at 7 p.m. to provide a COVID-19 update. They are planning to use WebEx for remote participation. The details of how to carry that are still being worked out but as of now the plan is to carry the meeting live on our Government channel and on the same Facebook page.

The School Committee is also meeting on Tuesday at 7 p.m. and are also planning on using remote participation technology. As with the Board of Health we are working out the details on how to best carry the meeting but the plan as of now is to carry the meeting on our Education channel (Comcast: 22, Verizon: 40, RCN: 13) and our BNEWS Facebook page. The School Committee agenda also includes a COVID-19 update on a number of items including attendance requirements, April vacation week, the last day of school and learning from home.
