Italian-Style Cafe With Breakfast All Day Looking to Open in the Mall

By: Rich Hosford

An Italian-style cafe that serves, among other things, breakfast all day, is looking to open in the Burlington Mall.

An application for a special permit has been filed with the Planning Department for Caffe Nero Americas to occupy a 2,510 square foot location on the first floor of the mall. The hearing for the application is set to open on Thursday, October 5.

According to the application, Caffe Nero “is modeled after traditional Italian cafes wherein they specialize in high quality coffee and freshly made pastries served to their customers in a relaxing atmosphere.”

If approved, Caffe Nero will operate during breakfast, lunch and dinner hours with seating for 65 patrons. The project design uses European concepts such as a veranda as the main entrance that is mean to create a simulated street.

According to its website, Caffe Nero has locations throughout the Boston area, the closest to Burlington being its Reading cafe. It serves a variety of breakfast items including croissants, croissant sandwiches, breakfast sandwiches, oatmeal and fruit options. For lunch it has sandwiches and salads. It also serves a variety of pastries, muffins and cakes. There are a variety of specialty drinks and coffees.

Caffe Nero prides itself on providing fair-trade coffee.

We have come from a grassroots organization that started off in an office above our cafe,” its website states. “From the beginning, we embraced the values of fairness, decency, warmth, kindness and the pursuit of excellence. Our approach to coffee sourcing is no different. If we’re to continue to create excellent coffee, we need to ensure our farmers are fairly rewarded. At Caffè Nero, we owe our reputation to sourcing high quality beans, and we pay premium prices for those beans. At present, the vast majority of the beans in our unique blend are sourced from identifiable and traceable sources, and we are working hard to ensure we purchase every bean this way.”
