Latest Library News: Chocolate the Secret Indulgence, Valentine's Day Party, Pajama Storytime

The Following is a Press Release from the Burlington Public Library

 

Chocolate: The Secret Indulgence – Thursday, February 15, 7-8:30pm Learn which chemicals elicit biochemical reactions in the human brain, making chocolate the perfect indulgence. During the presentation, you will also learn ow to taste chocolate for quality and how to eat it, too! Mike Cross is department chair of Natural Sciences at NECC where he teaches chemistry and forensic science. The Friends’ Third Thursday Program Series is an educational and entertaining program for adults, sponsored by the FOBPL. Admission is free and light refreshments are served.

Local History at the Burlington Public Library

The Burlington Historical Commission is raising awareness of local history and you can stop by the library to see some of their great efforts. Check out the historical Valentines, on display in the library’s entry way or stop by the Reference Desk and ask for a copy of Samuel Sewell’s “The History of Woburn” (donated by the Burlington Historical Commission) for a deeper look into Burlington’s rich history.

 

Youth Services Programs

 

We have celebrations all week for all ages: Story and Craft for Toddlers and Preschoolers, a Valentine’s Day Party for Grades 4-8 with none of the romance and all of the fun, and a Valentine Tea Party for preschoolers. Teens will celebrate Mardi Gras with King Cake, and everybody will celebrate Clifford the Big Red Dog on Norman Bridwell’s birthday. Come join in the fun!

 

Magic Tree House Book Club - Thursday, February 8, 3:45-4:45 pm Join Mary for another Jack and Annie adventure. This week we’ll have to think and act like ninjas in order to earn our own moonstones. This month’s book, Night of the Ninjas, is available at the children’s desk. We’ll talk about the book during snack. Grades 2-4

 

Teen Lounge - Friday, February 9, 16, and 23, 2:30-4:30 pm Celebrate the end of the week with Nicole! Grades 6-12

 

Toddler and Preschool Story and Craft - Monday, February 12, Toddlers @ 10:30 am and Preschoolers @ 11:30 am Mary will be telling Valentine stories and afterwards children will make crafts from the heart.

 

Valentine’s Day Party for Grades 4-8 - Monday, February 12, 7-8 pm Have fun with Jenna and your friends making conversation heart poems and playing Minute to Win It: the chocolate version!

 

Valentine’s Day Tea Party - Tuesday, February 13, 11 am Join Amanda for a story, followed by tea andvalentine cookies.

 

Teen Mardi Gras Party- Tuesday, February 13, 2:30 pm Nicole will be serving up King Cake. See who gets the slice with the lucky baby!

 

Preschool Science - Thursday, February 15, 1-1:45 pm Explore the wonders of everyday science withJoanna.

 

Clifford Storytime - Thursday, February 15, 4 pm Celebrate Norman Bridwell’s birthday with stories andactivities about Clifford the Big Red Dog!

 

Storytimes

 

Baby Storytime - Fridays at 11 am For caregivers with children ages birth-18 months. Delight and stimulate your baby’s senses with books, songs, toys and puppets! Build brain power!

 

Toddler Storytime - Tuesdays & Wednesdays at 10:30am For caregivers with children 18-36 months. Interact with your toddler to nurture a love of books. Be active with music and movement!

 

Preschool Storytime - Wednesdays at 11am & Fridays at 1pm For caregivers with children ages 3-6 years. Help your preschooler get ready to read. Enjoy stories together and build language skills!

 

Pajama Storytime - Tuesdays at 7 pm For caregivers with children ages 3-7. Bring your favorite stuffed animal & blanket, and snuggle in for some evening storytime fun!
