Latest Library News: Summer Reading Kick-Off, Tea Party, Quidditch


The following is a release from the Burlington Public Library: 


Summer Reading Kick Off – Thursday, July 6


Children-10 am-1 pm: This summer’s theme for children is “Reading . . . A World of Fantasy.”  Join us for a children’s magical kickoff: face painting, raffles, crafts, and a performance by Ed the Wizard at 11 am.


Teens -3 pm: The theme for Teens this summer is “Fantastic Reads.”  The Teens’ fantastic

kickoff, featuring Family Feud and walking tacos, starts at 3 pm.    


Summer Storytime Schedule:


Baby Storytime – Fridays, July 14-August 11, 11am For caregivers with children birth – 18 months


Toddler Storytime – Fridays, July 14-August 11, 11:30am For caregivers with children 18-36 months.


Family Story & Craft – Wednesdays, July 19 – August 16, 11am Enjoy stories together followed by an activity. (All Ages)


Pajama Storytime – Tuesdays, July 19 & August 15, 6pm Enjoy stories with the whole family in your PJs! (Ages 3-6)


Preschool Fun and Games - Friday, July 7, 11-11:30 am


Join Mary for games that use your brains and your bodies.


Teen Fantasy Friday - Friday, July 7, 4-5 pm


Join Nicole for activities based on a weekly theme. This week: Superheroes


Movie Monday - Monday, July 10, 11 am-1:30 pm


This week: “Sing!” All Ages


Teen Smash Brothers Tournament - Monday, July 10, 7-8 pm


Join Nicole for a friendly competition with your friends.


iFairy Tale - Tuesday, July 11, 11 am to Noon


Join Amanda for fairy tales and songs projected from a tablet. All Ages


Teen Tech Craft - Tuesday, July 11, 6-6:30 pm


Make your own phone projectors with Nicole.


Once Upon a Time Tea Party: Wednesday, July 12, 11am (Ages 2-6)


Our classic tea party is kicked up a notch; inspired by Alice in Wonderland and classic Fairytales. Please wear your best outfits and enjoy stories, cookies, and tea (juice).  


Tech Take Apart: Wednesday, July 12, 6pm (Grades 3 & Up)


Take apart electronics to see what's inside.


Fantasy Fiesta: Thursday, July 13 @ 4pm (Grades 3 & Up)


Celebrate all our favorite magical characters from Harry Potter-Percy Jackson with games and other activities! -Costumes encouraged but not required.


Mother Daughter Book Club: Thursdays, July 13, 6pm (Grades 3-6)


Book club for mothers and daughters involves activities and book discussions. Books will be at the Youth Services Desk. July: Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone.


Quidditch: Friday, July 14, 4pm (Grades 4 & Up)

Mastermind Adventures will explain all the rules and provide all the equipment to play the most popular game in the Wizarding World.


Museum Passes


If you are an art lover, you’ll love the discounted passes offered by the library!  You can visit the deCordova Sculpture Park & Museum, Institute of Contemporary Art, Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum, Museum of Fine Arts, New England Quilt Museum and the Peabody Essex Museum for less with these passes.


We offer passes to almost 2 dozen museums, parks and attractions that you can check out if you have a library card in good standing.  These passes are made possible by The Friends of the Burlington Public Library and other organizations, businesses and individuals who are sponsors. Did You Know?


Last year we had 790 children and teens register for summer reading. If we sat 2 children per seat, we would fill 18 school buses with our readers!
