Latest Library News: Winter Read N' Bead, Preschool Science, Baby Storytime

Outsmart Stress! with Dr. Candace Mutter – Thursday, January 18, 6:00-8:30pm The Friends of the Burlington Public Library will hold their annual meeting, followed by Outsmart Stress! with Dr. Kandyce Mutter. Over time, stress can severely damage your heart. This is why stress is known as the 'Silent Killer' and is the number one trigger to heart attack. Dr. Kandyce will discuss the most common sources of stress and discuss research proven ways to take control of your life so you can 'Keep calm and Carry On.' An educational and entertaining program for adults, sponsored by the FOBPL. Admission is free and light refreshments are served.

 

Youth Services Programs 

 

Winter Read N’ Bead - January 2-February 22

Join our Winter Reading Program 2018! Earn a bead for every 15 minutes of reading to create a one of a kind necklace. Save up your beads to trade in for specialty beads. You also earn raffle tickets towards gift baskets for every 2 hours you read. Raffle winners will be announced at the Hot Cocoa and Edible Sled event Friday, February 23 @ 1pm. Sign-Up online @ burlingtonpubliclibrary.org by clicking Winter Reading 2018 under the Kids tab. Best for grades pre-K to 5th grade, all are welcome to participate.

 

On cold days like these we need some indoor adventures. The library is stepping up with fun for all ages. This Thursday afternoon, 1st-3rd grade Magic Tree House series fans are going on a treasure hunt and making treasure maps of their own to go with Pirates Past Noon! Tuesday, teens will make some wild animal coffee cup cozies then try them out on our home-brewed cocoa. And intrepid preschoolers will get to explore the world of science on Thursday.

 

Magic Tree House Book Club - Thursday, January 11, 3:45-4:45 pm Join Mary for a new adventure with Jack and Annie. This month’s book is Osborne’s Pirates Past Noon. Pick up a copy at the Children’s Desk. We’ll go on a treasure hunt, snack, and make maps of our own! Grades 1-3

 

Teen Lounge - Friday, Jan. 12, 19, and 26, 2:30-4:30 pm If you’re a teen, it’s your late afternoon to howl!

 

Teen Craft - Tuesday, January 16, 2:30-3:30 pm Come make a coffee cup cozy with Jenna then try it out on our own hot chocolate! Grades 6-12

 

Preschool Science - Thursday, January 18, 1-1:45 pm Learn about the wonders of everyday science with Joanna!

 

Storytimes

 

Baby Storytime - Fridays at 11 am For caregivers with children ages birth-18 months. Delight and stimulate your baby’s senses with books, songs, toys and puppets! Build brain power!

 

Toddler Storytime - Tuesdays & Wednesdays at 10:30am For caregivers with children 18-36 months. Interact with your toddler to nurture a love of books. Be active with music and movement!

 

Preschool Storytime - Wednesdays at 11am & Fridays at 1pm For caregivers with children ages 3-6 years. Help your preschooler get ready to read. Enjoy stories together and build language skills!

 

Pajama Storytime - Tuesdays at 7pm For caregivers with children ages 3-7. Bring your favorite stuffed animal & blanket, and snuggle in for some evening storytime fun!
