Lightning Strikes Home Causing Small Fire

By: Rich Hosford

A Burlington home was struck by lightning causing a small fire that was put out thanks to the quick work of the homeowner.

Burlington Fire Department Captain Andy Connerty said that at 5:20 on Tuesday afternoon the department received a call that a Mill Street home had been struck by lightning. The hit had caused a gaslight to catch fire.

The homeowner had a fire extinguisher on hand and was able to put out the small fire.

“They were lucky,” Connerty said. “Fortunately the guy had an extinguishers in his house.”

The Fire Department shut down the gas to the house as a precaution and called in the electrical inspector and the plumbing inspector.

Nobody was injured during the incident.
