Long's Jewelers Files Application for Two-Story Building on Mall Property

By: Rich Hosford

Shoppers in Burlington looking for an engagement ring, a special gift, a new watch or just some bright new jewelry may soon have a new place with lots of options to check out.

An application for Site Plan Approval has been filed with the Burlington Planning Department for a new Long’s Jewelers for a site on the west side of the Burlington Mall property. According to the application the new building will be a two-story, 18,400 square foot structure that will connect to the mall with a new pedestrian connection.

“Long’s Jewelers is a family-owned and operated full-service jeweler with five stores throughout Massachusetts and New Hampshire,” the jeweler’s website states.

The jewelry store has been a long-established presence in New England that began in 1878 when Thomas Long, a Massachusetts native, opened his Boston-based jewelry business.

“Long’s has changed over the past 140 years, but the philosophy of the company remains true to its heritage: offer only the highest quality product and uncompromised service at the best possible value,” the website reads. “We take our position as New England’s favorite jeweler very seriously and we take enormous pride in celebrating the biggest moments in our customers’ lives.”

There is already a Long’s Jewelers on 60 South Avenue in Burlington and thus far there is no word if that location will close if the new on is approved. The application is set to be heard by the Burlington Planning Board on Thursday, February 7.
