MSMS Presentation to Help Parents Recognize Signs of Stress, Anxiety, Depression and Crisis


The Marshall Simonds Middle School PTO and the Burlington Education Foundation are encouraging parents to come learn about how to better understand the mental health of their children and how to spot warning signs of potentially damaging behavior. 

They are hosting an interactive presentation that will be an introduction to mental health that is designed to train adults on how to recognize the warning signs of stress, anxiety, depression and crisis. “Minding Your Mind Presenting: Just Talk About It” will be held on Tuesday, October 15 from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at MSMS. 

It will feature clinician Jon Mattleman and a Young Adult Speaker named Joey. 

Attendees will learn about:

- Stigma regarding mental health

- The most common causes and effects of stress and anxiety

- Adaptive and maladaptive coping skills

- The symptoms of depression

- The warning signs most often associated with a mental health crisis

- How to help a youth who is experiencing a mental health challenge or crisis
