By: BNEWS

An organization with the goal of improvement the quality and safety healthcare has given high marks to all the hospitals across the Lahey Health System, according to ratings released by the group.

“Lahey Health’s affiliated hospitals – Lahey Hospital & Medical Center, Addison Gilbert Hospital, Beverly Hospital, and Winchester Hospital all received an ‘A’ rating – the highest grade – on Leapfrog’s most recent Hospital Safety Score,” a release from Lahey Health states. “The Hospital Safety Score grades hospitals based on how safe they keep their patients from errors, injuries, accidents and infections.”

The Leapfrog Group, a Washington D.C-based organization aiming to improve healthcare quality and safety for consumers and purchasers, recently released the new Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grades. Only 750 hospitals across the country were awarded an ‘A’ for its efforts in protecting patients from harm and meeting the highest safety standards in the U.S. The Safety Grade assigns an A, B, C, D or F grade to hospitals across the country based on their performance in preventing medical errors, infections and other harms among patients in their care.

“This recognition is a reflection of the hard work and dedication of our staff as they work tirelessly to ensure that our patients and their families receive the highest quality of care,” said Howard Grant, JD, MD, President and Chief Executive Officer of Lahey Health. “To continually rank so highly when it comes to patient safety shows our organization’s commitment to improving processes and implementing best practices throughout the Lahey Health System to make sure our patients remain safe.”

The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade uses 27 measures of publicly available hospital safety data to assign grades to approximately 2,500 U.S. hospitals twice per year. It is peer reviewed, fully transparent and free to the public.

“This is the only national rating of how well hospitals protect patients from preventable harm and death, such as medical errors, infections, and injuries,” said Leah Binder, president and CEO of The Leapfrog Group. “Receiving an ‘A’ Safety Grade means a hospital is among the best in the country for preventing these terrible problems and putting their patients first, 24 hours a day.”
