By: Tad Stephanak

As part of Celebrate Burlington this Saturday, August 1, People Helping People and the Burlington Presbyterian Church are holding food drives to support the Burlington Community Food Pantry.

During the COVID-19 pandemic the Food Pantry has seen a significant rise in the need for food assistance. Items of greatest need are mayonnaise, vegetable oil, oatmeal, salad dressing as well as chicken, beef and vegetable broth. They are also seeking snacks like cookies, crackers, granola bars & trail mix. Shampoo, tissues, disinfectant wipes and baby wipes and also being sought.

Donations can be made at the People Helping People Burlington Food Pantry, 10 St. Mark’s Road from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and at Burlington Presbyterian Church, 335 Cambridge Street from 9 to 11 a.m.

Due to conditions of the pandemic both locations will be using a drive-thru drop off system. Those making contributions are being asked to have donations placed in your trunk to allow a contactless transfer. A member of the People Helping People Board or a volunteer will remove donated items from your trunk.

The mission of People Helping People is to help meet the basic needs of Burlington’s most at-risk residents. These sustained community efforts are focused on providing hunger relief, emergency financial aid and holiday support. Monetary donations may be made to People Helping People, PO Box 343, Burlington, MA 01803.
