Photo of the Week: Venus and the Seven Sisters (Pleiades)

By: Rich Hosford

Another week, another photo to highlight!

This week we have a photo that is out of this world. It was sent in by Joe Brown of JoeBrownPhotos.com and shows the planet Venus (upper left) and the stars of the open cluster known as the Pleiades in the sky over the greater Burlington area earlier this week.

“Venus is known as the goddess and the Pleiades are sometimes referred to as the Seven Sisters, as her seven brightest stars are easily seen,” Joe explains. “Fun fact - When we look at Venus, the light took about 5 1/2 minutes to get to earth. The light from the Pleiades however, takes 442 years to get here!”

Thanks for the photo, Joe!

We’d like to see your photos. They could be of your stay-at-home activities, shots of your pets, the coming signs of spring or just the weather seen from your own backyard. Whatever you think is interesting and want to share.

Email your photos to bcat@bcattv.org with the subject line “Photo of the Week.”
